Firefighters and equipment from multiple agencies responded to a natural cover fire Saturday afternoon that was located 12 miles west of Winston, near Iverson Park. Crews arrived on scene of the Iverson Park Fire around 12:30 PM and reported that it was a quarter acre in size, burning in grass, brush, and young trees. Two helicopters were dispatched to the incident to slow the fires spread while ground resources worked to install fire hose and construct containment lines around the perimeter of the fire. The Iverson Park Fire burned about an acre of vegetation before the forward spread of the fire was stopped. Crews will remain on scene of the fire throughout the remainder of the day, working to fully extinguish the smoking and smoldering material within the burned area. No homes were threatened by the fire and the cause is currently under investigation.
Agencies that responded to the Iverson Park Fire included the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Tenmile Rural Fire Department, Lookingglass Rural Fire Department, Camas Valley Rural Fire Department, and the Coos Forest Protective Association.
