Highway 42 Fire

A bird into the power lines sparked a grass fire Monday afternoon located three miles southwest of Winston, near the 2,000 block of Highway 42. Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Winston – Dillard Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District #2 arrived on scene of the Highway 42 Fire at approximately 5:20 PM and reported a quarter acre fire burning in a previously mowed field. Strong winds fanned the flames while aviation and ground resources worked to extinguish the blaze. Approximately 15 minutes after arriving on scene of the fire, firefighters reported that the forward spread of the fire had been stopped at two acres of grass. Crews remained on scene of the fire until 7:00 PM, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines.
